THE SHEEP IN SOUTHLAND.

'■ : ♦-i— ■ One curious fact disclosed by the two last quarters' statistics of exports has escaped general notice. It may be in the recollection of our readers that last winter and spring the most distressing accounts were published of tbe enormous ; losses, sustained in i Southland through sheep and cattle killed by the cold, or swept away by the floods. - It was confidently estimated by those who were thought good judges, that the falling off! in the' 'exports, of wool for the season just passed would be thirty per cent. Now, how stands the fact? There has been no falling, orf what-' ever, but on the contrary,' a small increase !
