THE DIPTON-MARAROA RAILWAY.
' : ».-., - - A meeting, of the Dipton Kaihvay .Com-' mittee was held last Thursday evening. Present — Messrs R. D. McLauchlan^chair), W. Whitaker, J. Morrison, W. Daniel, and C. Kerr. The meeting was convened to receive reply from the Government to the letter forwarded by the committee J last month, and which ran as follows : — ■ Dipton, February 22, 1579, The Hon. the Minister for Public Works, Wellington. ' ' Sir, — I am directed" by the Dipton Railway Committee to respectfully request that the flying survey of the railway to Mararoa via Dipton, which you -'promised to the deputation who lately waited on you; on the subject, would be carried but : at' tie earliest'conyenieut date, and the committee would feel greatly obliged 'if you would favor them with inf or* m'ation as to when such survey can be made. I have the 'honor to be, Sir, _ . Your obedient servant,r van t', - R. Di McLauchlAN. It ,was pointed out by the Chairman that shortly subsequent to the dispatch of the letter what was. designated a survey by the Government had been made, but was , not worth the ..name, and then came .the reply, which had only reached the secretary the previous day.
