MELBOURNE.
Messrs Goldsbrough & Co. report for the month ending January 24th :— Wool.— At the auction sales held during the month 14,360 bales have been catalogued and 11,284 bales sold, thus making a total of 134,638 bales offered and 99,441 bales sold since the opening of the.season in October. The quantity offering has fallen off very considerably during the past fortnight, and it is evident the sales are 1 now nearly over, the catalogues from this time i forward being likely to be comparatively unimportant.- .- . k , . • " Prices have been fairly maintained during the ! month,' considering the unsatisfactory advices from the home markets. The class of wool brought for- | ward throughout the month has generally been . ordinary to average, as is usually the case to- | wards the close, of the season ; "and. feking con- , -dition into account, *a full'ran-re of prices has been given. • ,,.' The shipments to date are 230,667 bales, being , 10,316 bales in excess of the shipments at the corresponding date last year.
