QUEENSLAND.
At a meeting of stockowners the following resolution was passed : — " That the present state of the stock market is is Sueh 'as to cause to stoc_owners ( tl|e gravest anxiety, and therefore it is desirable . that ther,e shpuld^ be conicented action ou tlie part of stockowners." A severe thunderstorm, whicii lasted some hours, occurred on the night of January 23rd, the lightning being most vivid. During the night the Wesleyan chapel at Paddington was burned to the ground in a few minutes. It is supposed to have been struck by lightning. Two noticeable deaths occurred on the 25th, 'at Brisbane. - A" ' publican .named Gaffney dropped dead at Sandgate, after bathing ; and a sailor nanied Gibbinger committed suicide. The Marine Board -inquiry in reference to' 'the loss of the 6teather Macedon .exonerated. Captain Ashford. . /The pilot might have given the Spit a wider berth, but the board could not attribute any actual blame to them., , . J. ,
