The 31st anniversary of the National Vege-„ tarian Society has just been celebrated in' Manchester. The banquet was attended by' about 400 ladies and gentlemen. ThetfoUowing is" the biU of fare : — First course : Peas •and celery soup. Second course: Haricots, potatoes, savory omelet, apple sauce, and brown sauce. Third course : Stewed and raw fruit, rice moulds, blanc mange, bread and butter, preserved ginger, tea and coffee. Gbandfatheb to his hopeful : "My son, which'would you rather have when you get Tiqme — a- little brother .or. sister ?" Grandson : "Wfcll, "voiUd rather hj\ve a little pony,"
