APARIMA ROAD BOARD.

——————— - The Board met in the 'reat Western Hotel* Riverton.on vv ednesday, 17th inst. Pres^n — Messrs I yon (chairman,) John*t n, Vurse, ste c s Wm. Walker, Grieve, and Wm. Mac ki > tosh. The returns of ate elections showed that Capt, Ste»ens was elected for Jaooo'a River Subdivision, Messrs Blacks' ock and Wm. Walter for Mount Plea-ant Subdivision. Mr John Walker for Heddon Bush Subdivision. Mr J. W. Hamilton for Waimatuku Subdivision, and Messrs Grieve and Brook for New Kiver Subdivision. There was read (I) letter from Mr Coster re proposed deviation of road near his hou«e, pointing out that as the deviation was for the pu'lic benefit, and would be a great saving to tbe Board if carried out, he should not be aske i to bear th oost of getting the alteration maie, Mr Johnston gave notio* that at next meeting he would move that the resolution passed a last meeting anent this matter fee re? scin led, It was agreed that further consideration of the matter be deferred 'O next meeting. The Inspector of Works stated that nothing had been "done to the bridge since that, date, and that a horse tea n could not cross » ith safety, us the horses sipped and fell. Consideration of report regarding encroachments of Oreti Hirer on the road, was further deferred to next meeting of the Board. Petition from settlers at otaitai Bush o *mpl ining that a contract there had not been finished, and that road was in consequence impnsßatrio. The clerk was instructed to inform the petitioners that the Inspector of Works had directed the contractor to suspend the works til next se>»s">n. The clerk was instructed to give public notice requiring all persors who have <eft ditches or b nks across any i-oadlines n w used for traffic, to remove such obstruction* without delay. Kesolved on the motion of Mr Johnston seconded by Mr Nurse— 'T'lat the Inspector visit th« Jacob's Biver subdivision, accompanied by the members of committee, and report to next meeting what road 0 <ght to be closed. Resolved on the motion of the Hon. W. H. Nurße, seconded by Capt. Stevens, ' That the necessary steps be taken to have the road extending through Jacob's River flat from Upper Ford to Mr Mujloy's olosed;*and a n u w road opened through Mr T. Sutton's land to the proposed bridge over Jaoob's River. Mo<-ed by the Hon. W. H. TCarse, 'That the chairman be instructed fco write to the member for Jacob's Kiver district in the j General Assembly, requesting him to urge on the Government the necessity for constructing a bridge over the Aparima River at Upper Ford, to allow the settlers on the western j side of the river access to the railway. Th s was seconded by Mr Johnston and agreed to. It was moved by Mr Johnston and seconded by thfl Hon. W. H. Nurse— That the Board request Mr Foster 'o allow the publio to go through his land from the foH, until such time aB the Board can make definite arrangements fo- a road. Agreed to. It was moved by Mr Johnston— Th«»t the road be widened at lagoon, on Mr Thos. button's f*rm. near Mr Brown's, and that the Inspector arrange with Vlr Thos. Sutton and report to next meeting. This was seconded by the Hon. W. H INurse, and agreed to. The Hon. W. H. Nurse apwiied for leave of a sei cc from the meetings of the Board during the ensuing session of the General Assembly. On the motion of Capt. Stevens seoonded by Mr Johnston, leave of absence was granted as requested. Tbe Boa-d adjourned to the annual meeting on Wednesday 21st August, prox.
