IMJSIiWESS KTOEXCES READY MONEY, BUYEES OF DT> A "DT7T> %T AWD \j JL vJ ixlIINo WILL I/O WELL TO VISIT THOMSON & BEATTIE'S NOTICE. WE HATE DECIDED IN FUTURE to confine ourselves to a CASH TRADE in INVERCARGILL. We find Ceedit in this town ia becoming so much the rule that traders to realize a fair return are compelled to charge 'unduly hgh prices. There i 3 also an unduly large proportion of bad debts made. Goods sold on credit and never paid for, is a form of charity we dislike^ even if in part recouped by higher profits, This system of placing an additional profit on goods to form an insurance fund to cover bad debts is an unjust one, and raises the prices to a considerable extent — at least it raises prices to a considerable extent here — the percentage of the population who only pay under compulsion or never pay at all being unfortunately much larger than it ought to be. We have in our own case attempted to keep the evil within bounds, by only selling on credit to people we imagined honest, with but poor success. We have therefore decided to reduce our prices as much as possible, and Bell for cash only, and as the bulk of our goods have been well bought in the home market, we hope to be able in a short time to convince the paying public that the difference between a caeh and a credit trade means a large saving to the purchaser. We purpose continuing to import as good a class of drapery as we have hitherto done. We do Dot mean to adopt the expedient of lowering our prices by substituting inferior goods. Our WINTON and GORE stores being supplied with drapery from our Invercargill shop, will sell for cash at the Invercargill marked prices. We will, however, at WINTON and GORE continue to sell on credit to the settlers as we have hitherto done, our credit prices being marked on the goods, in addition to the cash ones, in plain figures Our Invercargill business will in future be managed according to the following simple , plan : — No Credit will be given, and ; AIL GOODS WILL BE MARKED IN PLAIN FIGURES AT THE LOWEST CASH PRICES, AND NO ABATEMENT WILL BE MADE. We trust that the large number of our kind friends to whose support we owe so much will think with us that this step is one that will enable us to serve them much better, and that having hitherto supplied them with goods the qualities and prices of which have compared favorably with other houses, we will now be able to offer them very decided advantages. THOMSON & BEATTIE. We have removed the Tailoring branch of our business to Tuy street, next door to Mr ; Meßobb, baker, where it will be carried on under the management of Mr Thomas Lockerbie. THOMSON & BEATTIE. AND COMPARE THE i AT WHICH THEY HAVE MAEKED THEIR GOODS WITH THE PEICES OF THE SAME GLASS I o # GOODS ELSEWHERE,
