THE BAD STATE OF YTHAN STREET

— ♦ — ■ — TO THB EDITOR OP THB TIMBS. Slß,— l understand that the Municipal Council have resolved not to entertain a peti. tion from the residents of Appleby to have Tthan street repaired on the ground that they are not ratepajers within the Municipality. Perhaps jou will allow me, through your columns, to state that the petition was drawn np upon the following grounds, viz : — 1. That some few years ago the residents of Appleby laid down a wooden pathway from Forth street, all the wuy along Ythan street, and across the Town Belt to the Boufch of the town. 2. That the said pathway was always kept in good repair by the residents of Appleby until last year, when the Corporation were draining the street, a great number of the planks were torn up and laid aside, and have never been replaced. 3. That the street bus now become almost impassable in consequence of the planks having been torn up and laid asido, a» above mentioned, and not having been replaced by the Corporation. Now, Mr Editor, taking the circumstances under which the above mentioned petition was presented into consideration, I think that it would be but right for the Corporation to replace the planks in the worst parts of the street ; tbe expense incurred by so doing would not be Tory great, and it would enable rhe residents in the south of the town to pass the winter with some decree of comfort. — Yours, Ice, One of the Petitioners.
