THE RAILWAY CROSSING AT THE JETTY ROAD.
(to the editor op the times.) Sill, — As the Railway Manager is here at present, you will greatly oblige a number of carters by drawing his attention to the railway crossing near the jetty, where, since the timber has been taken up. aud iron guard rails substituted, a number of the carters' horses are getting the shoes torn off their feet nearly every day. I would mention a case which occurred a short time ago, when Mr Cruickshanks's man stopped to let the train pass before crossing. After the train had passed, he was going across as usual, when one of his horses caught its feet between the rail, which caused both horses to fall, with a load of gravel. Had the train been coming at the time, something serious would hare happened. I may stafe the sam; man today met with a like accident, which almost took the hoof off the horse's leg. It has ciused it to be lame, and it will be some time before it is better. It is time that something was done, for carters cannot pay £50 o • £60 for a good horse every day. By inserting this you will greatly oblige.— l am, &c, i CiBTBB. 1 September 17, 1874.
