ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

WE DO NOT HOLD OTJUSELVBS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OPINIONS EXPRESSED «V OUR CORRESPONDENTS. . (To the Editor of the Invercargill Times.) Sir.— As there seem to be many misunderstandings as to what thejdiscipline of th.'Chu:-c'i of England is in respect of its cemeteries, will you allow a few words in explanation. We claim a right to our burial grounds bocause we consider that they are places of worship just as much as our churches are. and for both tlrese places we have certain appointed forms of service, which, according to the discipline of the church we are required to use. Wo do not object, to the burial of members of other forms of Christain belief amongst our own members, for our burial service is opeit-^to Chris ians of al denominations who may wish tp use it when fiey bury their dead. We hold the question 1o be simply one of discipline, and not of broad or narrow views, or of demarkation between the dead,' tor we consider that everything relating to the cemetery is to be managed for the interest and welfare not of the dead but of the living.' It seems also not to be sufficiently understood that the burial service is not for the dead body but for the living congregation, to express and con.,fii;m theirjaith and hope. I should be jnuch^ England on tite Q,ue's'£ion v *\v]jircaliaF^eenraisedt for on account of what seems to us to be very simple regulations, there are sometimes imputed to us very strange superstitions. I remain, Mr, obedient porvant, W. P. Tanner. Invercargill, 17th Oct., 1863. (To the Editor of the Invercargill Times.) £>ir— l trust that somegentlemen who formerly belonged to the old Cricket Club will again reunite and form themselves into a club for the ensuing season, so that Southland will not, at. all events in this noble game, be looked upon asnon est. I see that several meetings have been called by, comparatively speaking, new comers. Surely those who were first in the field should Rot allow themselves to be thus " bowled out." Yours, &c, Cricketer.
