Wreckof the Schooner Mount Azex.

axdeii.— lntelligence reached town on Saturday of the loss of this vessel, whilst attempting to enter the Molynoux on the afternoon of "Wednesday last. She left Melbourne some fourteen days previously, and readied the mouth of the river on the morning of Hint day. She was running in with a strong easterly wind at high water, when the wind suddenly failed her as she reached Ino rocks, the current running at the rate of six knots, caught her on the broadside, and before way could again be gathered on the vessel, she was swept out of the river on to the North Spit, where she now lies, the sea making a clean breach over her at times. Immediately on the vessel's drifting, the anchors were let go, but owing to the shifting sands would not hold. Captain M'Donald, of the steamer Planet, passed on next morning, at five a.m., but as the schooner was in the breakers, and his own vessel deeply laden, was unable to render her any assistance. We believe it was bis intention to make a further attempt, should the weather permit, on his return. The Mount Alexander and cargo are owned by Messrs Wood and Thomas, of tlio Clutha Ferry and only partiallj' insured. Two horses which were on deck were saved. All hopes of getting her oft* were abandoned, and by our advertising columns will be seen that the hull and cargo will be sold on account of whom it may concern, on Tuesday next, at one p.m. — Otago Daily Times.
