SWITZER'S

The population is about 250. The diggings are situated on a creek rising j n the Umbrella Ranges and falling into the Waikaia, which again empties itself into the Mataura. The creek is worked up for about two miles. Payable gold is obtained in some of the blind gullies adjacent. The diggings are about 16 miles due east of the Victoria company's station, about 6 miles east of Chaplin's, late Switzer's station. I think the best route would be the North road from Invercargill as far as M'Kellar's plains, from thereon to Baggot's, M'lntosh's, M'Gibbou's and Sydney Bill's, from thence to Tibbett's station The diggings are then within 5 miles. The road is good all the way. The men are for the most part, doing well. No stores erected ; most of the provisions come from Shand's and Cox's.
