THE INVERCARGILL AND BLUFF ROAD

Strangers travelling to and from Invercargill and Bluff Hai-bour, if on horseback, will find that the distance between the above places (20 miles) may be travelled both with speed and comfort by leaving Invercargill at half-ebb, and the Bluff at low water. Travellers on foot to leave the former place at first of the ebb, and the latter at last quarter ebb, bearing in mind that a westerly or B.W. gale will cause a seven hours' flood, leaving but five hours' ebb, so that it will be necessary to get under way accordingly. The above distance is generally covered by horsemen in from 2£ to 3 hours, an on foot in from <!■ $ to 6 hours.
