TRAINING SCHOOL FOR MATERNITY NURSES.
GOVERNMENT PERMISSION TO BE
SOUGHT AGAIN.
At this week’s meeting of the Palmerston North Hospital Board it was decided to make further representations to the Government that the Palmerston North district maternity homo be made a training school for midwives and that the help of the member for the district be enlisted to this end.
The decision was the outcome of a letter from the nurses and midwives registration board-.which stated that it had considered the matter of approving the Palmerston -North district, maternity home as a -training school for midwives and that it held there had not; been sufficient time to .decide whether the institution would be able to provide sufficient material and generally supply. ihc standard of training required for midwives. The registration board decided .that, the approval given for the training of maternity nurses should stand and that the matter of permitting, the ■; training- of midwives would be reviewed in a year’s time.
Members were not at all satisfied with the communication and unanimously decided to .take the steps mentioned.
