UFFENCE PREYS ON 11IS MIND. PAL.MERSTON N., May 10. A young man, Edward Albert McGuire, with several aliases, was olurrged with the theft of a banjo and mandolin at Thames. Accused’s counsel said McGuire bought the instrument on the hire purchase system. When he left Tham.es for Auckland lie had only paid £l. In Auckland he soid the instrument and then went to. Wellington, where the matter preyed on his mind. Coming to Palmerston North, accused had given himself up voluntarily to the who had no knowledge of the theft Enquiries showed 'accused's story to be correct. He was convicted and ordered to come up for sentience within twelve months on condition that the £2 purchase money remaining on the instrument, which had been handed ; ba£k to the owner, be paid.
