COMMITTED TO WERAROA.

youth charged with theft

At the Magistrate’s Court at Palmerston yesterday, before Mr J. LStout, iS.M., Whiter Kennedy was charged on three counts: U) “that on or about January 20, 1923, at Shannon He did steal two. motor coils, value £1 Bs, the property of the Shannon Meat Co->; (2) that on or. about March 12, 1923, at Shannon, he did steal one acetylene generator, value £1 10s, the property of •Turnbull Cooper; (3) ’ that on or about September 21, 1922, at Shannon, he dull 'Steal one: motor battery, value £5, the property of Gordon Grey Mitchell.’ The accused pleaded guilty and elected to be dealt with summarily. In briefly outlining the fa'cts of the case the Senior-Sergeant said the accused who .had; recently turned 16 years of age, had BBSn Hinder the care of the Probation Officer at Palmerston North, When arrested on the present charges he had endeavoured to throw the blame on to another boy. Some time ago, he added, al gang of boys was formed in Shannon presumably for illegal purposes, but Constable McGregor had) got to hear about it, and had brpken up the gang.. The accused had not previously been committed to the Weraroa farm. Without hearing further evidence the Magistrate committed the accused to Weraroa farm..
