MOOSE AND WAPITI.

THE 5 RECENT EXPEDITION. REPORT TO GOVERNMENT. A report and photographs dealing with his recent expedition in quest of moose and wapiti have been placed in ne hands of the Government by Mr Vivian Donald, of Masterton. Mr Donald is transmitting, through -the American Consulate-General, a letter to the son of the late Theodore Roosevelt, from which the following has been extracted:) —“The herd is doing splendidly, and I-am quite sure the Government would be pleased if some of your American, stalkers could come and enjoy a season’s hunting. The Wapiti were liberated in George Sound, and have some two .million acres of forest in. which to spread over; the feed being plentiful should be suitable for growing good heads. So far we have very little knowledge of their habits, or of the methods generally used in stalking. I find it quite impossible to imitate their bugle as I can the roar of the Tfd deer; I believe in America you use an artificial call We will also have to use youf methods of making light collapsible boats to use on the lakes in the wapiti country.”
