MAIL NOTICES.

Subject to any necessary alteration* paJln will close as under:— Friday, February Ist. For Australian Colonies (via Bluff), and South Africa, per Mokoia, at 4.30 p.xn. Monday, February 4th. For United Kingdom, Continent of Europe, United States of America, Canada, West Indies, etc. (via San Francisco), Japan, Hawaiian Islands, and Samoa, per Alameda, as follows : —Ordinary letters, at 4 p.m.; registered letters, money orders, book packets, and newspapers, at 3.30 p.m.; late fee letters at C.P.O. till 4.45 p.m., and at mail van north express till 5.7 p.m. Due in London, on March 6th.

From the Ist inst. the postage on letters and letter cards for delivery within the colony or for the United Kingdom, Canada, India, Cape Colony, and practically all other places within the British Empire, except Australia, will be for each half ounce or fraction thereof, one penny. For foreign countries the rate will re„main at 2jd as at present, and for Australia at 2d until further advised.

Postage on parcels for the United Kingdom will from the same date be as follows : —For parcels not over three pounds, Is; not over seven pounds, 2s; not over 11 pounds, 3s. Mails for South Africa leave Melbourne on the 27th inst., and February 2nd and Sth. The next San Francisco mail will close at Timaru on February 4th. Due in London oca March Sth.
