The Auckland-Otago cricket match was commenced to-day at Carisbrook. The weather was dull and the ground in favour of the bowlers after the rain which had fallen, so that when the Otago skipper wqp the toss he sent the visitors in to bat. They made an unexpectedly weak stand, the total reaching only 55. Otago on going in showed that the wicket, was not too bad to score on, and proved also that the visitors were somewhat weak in, bowling. The total reached 224 before the end came.
With ten minutes to play the Aucklanders went in again and lost Lusk, who skied Downes’ first ball. DUNEDIN, January 1.
The Auckland-Otago cricket match was concluded to-day, and resulted in a win for the local team by an innings and 53 runs. Rain fell during the night and throughout the morning so that the ground and wicket were very heavy.
