Mr Justice Martin to-day heard a case in which May Halliday, a widow of 49 years, sued William Cain, a widower of 67 years, for £2OO damages for alleged breach of promise. Plaintiff keeps a small store at Sydenham, and defendant is a blacksmith 'at the same place. Afterevidence, His Honour said it was likely that the promise of marriage had been made, but from plaintiff’s own evidence it seemed a mere money-making business, and the damages must be nominal.
