Tennis and Croquet.

Croquet and tennis teams from the Timaru Tennis Club visited Ashburton on Saturday to play matches with the Ashburton Clubs, Owing to the fact that many of the leading Timaru players were' unable to go the tennis team was very much weakened, and consequently suffered an easy defeat. Some good play was shown, especially in the com-’ bined between Mrs Tennant and Cox (A ) v. Miss Sotham and Orwin (T). The games at croquet were closely contested, Timaru winning four out of the five games played. The Ashburton players were most assiduous in their attentions to make the outing a thoroughly enjoyable one for the visitors. The croquet players were especially indebted to Mr Wroughton for driving them to and from the ground. Details: Croquet.—(Ashburton players named first)—Mrs Wroughton 16 v.
