The annual concert in connection with the Cave school was held last Friday night and was a great success both financially and otherwise. Mr James Graham occupied the chair. The singing was excellent, the lady-vocalists being Misses Welsh, Shaw, Jones (2) and Irving. The gentlemen who contributed songs were Messrs Buckridge, Flavall, and Hunter. Messrs Frank Smith and T. Blisset gave recitations which were well received, Mr Joe West enlivened the proceedings with a hornpipe and clog dance, and brought down the house. Mrs James Shepherd presided at the piano, and ably accompanied the singers. A comic sketch by Messrs Flavall, Blissett and Shaw wound up the first part of the night’s proceedings. Although the programme was rather lengthy, the audience appeared to enjoy themselves thoroughly throughout the entertainment, and a very pleasant evening was spent. A well served tea as a feature in the affair. At the close of the concert, the room was cleared and dancing was kept up till early next morning, Mr Peter Cooper being a most efficient violinist. “ It is a pleasure to sell Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy,” says Stickney & Dentler, druggists, Republic, Ohio, “ Because a customer after once using it, is almost certain to call for it when again in need of such a medicine. We sell more of it than of any other cough medicine we handle, and it always gives satisfaction.” For coughs, colds and croup, it is without an equal. For sale by J. C.tOddie. A French philosopher has been making a most thorough investigation into the average height of European man. He says the records show that in 1610 the average height was 5 feet 9 inches, that in 1820 it was 6 feet 5 inches, and that in the present year of grace it is only 5 feet 3f inches. From these facts he deduces that by the year 4000 the average European man will be only 15 inches high, and that before a.d, 5000 he will vanish altogether.
