Temuka School Committee.

1 The monthly meeting of the Temoka School Committee was held on Tuesday evening. Present—Messrs J. Salmond (chairman), 0, Bates, A. BusieU, G. Levans, T F. Hooper, J. Grant, J. W. Miles, and D. Taylor. Correspondence was read from the Education Board (l)notifyißg payment of £ll 7s 6d for incidentals; (2) asking for nominations of a person to fill a vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr G. H. Rhodes, sod covering attendance returns for the quarter ending Sept 30. From the Bev. G. Barclay, signifying hie consent to be nominated to the Education Board.

From Mr Theo. B. Strong, applying for leave of absence from Dec. 12th to Deo. 18th, in order to attend matriculation examination.

The headmaster’s report showed that the average attendance bad been 300 8 for the past month. The school bad been examined, and from the schedules it appeared that 93 6 per cent of the children had passed. On the motion of Mr Levens, seconded by Mr Bates, it was resolved —“ That this Committee congratulate Mr Ferguson and bis assistants upon the exceptionally successful report of the inspector’s examination.'* The secretary was authorised to arrange for certain repairs to Venetian blinds, spouting, etc. The chairman said that the Bev. Mr Gillam had expressed a desire to resume the Bible class lessons after hours, and would wait upon the Committee. Mr Gillam, however, was unable to attend, and after a brief discussion the subject was allowed to drop. It was resolved to close the school on December 14tb, and reopen on January 22nd, for the Christmas holidays. A motion to shorten the holidays by a week was lost by the casting vote of the chairman. The sum of £l2 was voted for expenditure ou prizes, and the chairman and the beadmaster were authorised to procure same. Arrangements for prize-day were left to the chairman.

On the report of Mr Bnssell, the chairman was requested’*© draw the janitor’s attention to neglect of duties. One account, £2 10s, was passed for payment and the meeting terminated.
