The weekly returns of the Bank of England, published to-day, show the total reserve to be £15,016,000. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 44.96 per cent. Three months’ bills are discounted at
4£ per sent. Consols, 97|. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 104| ; ditto, 94. New Zealand long.berried wheat, ex warehouse, flat, 28s fid. South Australian ditto, weaker, 28s 6d. i Victorian ditto, quiet, 28a. Frozen mutton, first quality, 3|d ; second quality, B§d> Lamb, first quality, 3|d. New Zealand hemp quotations are unchanged. Danish butter, 124 s per cwt. A South Australian wheat cargo has been sold at 27s 4|d. Chaff, ex Ophir, has-not been sold, and it is expected there will be a loss of £2 per ton. Merchants consider it will never pay to ship chaff to England, owing to the heavy freight.
Sugar, German beet, 14s 9d ; Java, quiet, 17a 6d. No. 1 beat Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in Clyde, active, 42s 6d.
