The annual match between the Timaru and Ashburton Chess Clubs was held on Wednesday evening at the Empire Hotel, Timaru winning by one point. The following is a list of the games : Ashbueton. Timaeu. Cocks ... | Alcorn 1 Dr Beid ... 1 Bell 1 Low 1 Owen 0 Bowron.., ... 2 Steward ... 0 DrOox 2 Leech 2 Young 0 S 9 After the match the visitors were entertained at supper by the local team, Mr Moore providing it in his usual excellent manner.
