Sir Saul Samuel, Agent-General for New South Wales, had an interview today with Lord Bipon, Secretary of State for the Colonies, and Sir E. Grey, Parliamentary Under-Secretary for the Foreign Office, with reference to the claims of the officers, crew, and owners, of the Sydneyowned vessel “ Costa Rica packet,” seized by the Dutch. He argued that the vessel being a whaler was unable to proceed without her captain, and therefore his detention by the Dutch justified the claim for special loss. Sir E. Grey has promised to reconsider the matter.
