ADDINGTON LIVE STOCK MARKET,

(Bt Telegraph.)

CHRISTCHURCH.

July 19. . A large entry of most classes of stock, especially fat sheep, came to hand at the Addington market to-day. The attendance was good and business in most lines fairly brisk. About 9000 sheep, fully two-thirds of which occupied the fat pens, came to band. A medium entry of fat cattle met with a brisk demand, while the small entry of stores sold fairly well, and the large entry of pigs was more than sufficient for requirements. SHEEP. Something like 3000 store sheep were entered. The quality was very mixed and the sale, except for ewes close to lambing, very dull. A number of lines were passed. Between 6000 and 7000 sheep were in the fat pens, apd while the quality was decidedly better than usual, a large number of merinos and some half finished crossbreds detracted from the appearance of the entry. The sale opened without animation, but showed an improvement as it proceeded. Buyers for export were not doing business, and the supply was more than equal to local demands, consequently business dragged considerably. CATTLE. A medium entry of fat cattle, made up mostly of heifers and second quality beef, with one or two pens of really good steers, met a ready market, and prices were about on a par with those ruling last week. A small entry of store cattle, consisting mostly of cows and yearlings, met with a slightly improved sale. PIGS. The pig pens were well filled, porkers and stores predominating. Good bacon pigs alone maintained their values, a considerable drop being noticeable in all other sorts. BUENSIDE MARKET. DUNEDIN. July 19.8 FAT CATTLE, 117 were yarded, and the supply being short, the demand was very brisk, all sorts being freelv disposed of at the late high prices. Best bullocks brought .£lO 10s to <Bl2, medium to good <BB 10s to <B9 17s 6d, light weights <B6 5s to <B7 17s 6d, best cows £7 los to <B9 ss, medium to good <BS 17s 6d to £7 ss, light and aged <B3los to <BS 10s. FAT SHEEP, 2649 were penned, of which 959 were merinos. Competition was fairly good up to certain prices, showing a drop of Is to Is fid compared with last week. The supply of merinos was considerably in excess of requirements, the bulk of which were difficult to. place except at very low prices; only for the very best could last week’s values be obtained. Best crossbred wethers brought 15s to 16s fid, one or two pens extra heavy 17s fid to 18s fid, medium to good 13s fid to 14s fid, best crossbred ewes 14s fid to 15s 9d, medium to good 12s fid to 14s, beat merino wethers 9s to 11s fid, extra prime 13s, medium 5s fid to 8s fid. GRAIN. Wheat.—All sorts offering met with a good demand, particularly inferior to medium, for which buyers are now giving more money. Fowls’ wheat is scarce and in strong demand, sales being readily effected at higher prices. Best milling does not show any apparent advance; indeed, prices are now above the equivalent of the rates ruling at Home. Quotations are—For prime milling velvet and f tusoan 2s lid to 3s, medium to good 2s lOd to 2s lid, inferior to medium 2s fid to 2s 9d, broken and thin 2s to 2s 4d (ex store, sacks weighed in ; terms).* Cats.—Oats continue to change hands freely. For some good sorts a slight advance is being secured this week, and with the market so sparingly fed the position continues in favour of the sellers. Quotations are—For best milling 2s Id to 2s l£d, best bright stout feed 2s tp 2s U-Jd, medium to good Is HJd to 2s, inferior to medium Is 9d to Is lid, extra good sorts (clean and fit for seed) fetch 2s to 2s 3d (ex store, sacks extra; net). Barley.—Sales are confined to small lots of milling and feed.
