COMMERCIAL.

Mr Moss Jonas reports as follows : Business generally still remains in an unsettled state, but as those on strike are now returning to work, a revival of trade may be looked forward to. The stock market is with’ out any change of importance to note. Quotations for fat sheep and cattle remain unaltered. There is, however, a good demand for ewes in lamb, and enquiries for well forward steers. Particulars of sales at the different saleyards are as follows: —, '

PLEASANT POINT. ■’ There was a very good attendance and a satisfactory sale at these yards, on the 6th inst., when his entry comprised 1500 sheep, head of cattle, and several lots of pigs. Cattle in point of numbers sold especially well, and some of the lines fetched first-rate values. A little more than three-fourths of the whole of his entry was sold as follows: —105 2-tooths at 15s 6d, 183 do at 14s Bd, 91 hoggets at 14s 6d, 150 do at 13s 2d, 99 do at 10s 2d, 300 do at 9a lOd, 52 fat wethers at 9s 7d, and 71 do at 13s 2d. 9 fat cows at £6, roan cow in milk at .£2los, 4 steers at £3, 22 steers and heifers at £3, 17 do at 325, 3 heifers at £1 12s 6d, 36 mixed steers and'heifers.from £ll7s 6d to £3 ss. SHEEPSKINS, HIDES, AND PAT. The usual trade buyers were present on the Bth. His catalogue comprised about 3000, exclusive of freezers. Quotations are unchanged. Crossbrods 4s, 4s 2d, 4s 84* ss, 5s 6d to 6s 4d, merinos.2s 3d, 2a lOd, 3s, Bs 3d, 3s 7d, 4s, 4s 6d, up to ss, half-breds 2s 9d, 3s, 3s sd, 4s, 4s 6d, up to 5s 6d. Fat—4 tons at 10s to 14s. Hides—The, same remarks apply to these. ' They must be well kept and free from offal to be of any marketable value. Quotations are Id to 3d, according to weight and quality. He requests owners to see that hides are forwarded . in good marketable condition. This can be easily done, and be a great gain to. the owners if a little more care was taken, for out of 400 purchased during the last four weeks, not more than 160 fetched a proper pric>, through carelessness in the way they were looked after. This has made a difference to the owners of from |d to l£d per lb., and ho trusts that this will be avoided in the future. MISCELLANEOUS.
