An ordinary meeting of the Timaru Har boor Board is to bo held on the 16th inet. Business: To receive the reports of the standing committee on the wages of the harbourmaster’s staff, and on the extra screw moorings and lighting of the wharves. The board will be also asked to discuss the motion of which notice has been given by Mr D. M. Boss 00 the propriety of increasing wharf accommodation by building a wharf alongside the north mole or otherwise ; (2) providing facilities for the direct cartage of cargo from ship’s side.

In consequence of the death of Mrs Arthur Perry, the meet of the South Canterbury Harriers, advertised for Coonoor, to morrow, will not take plr.ee.

The annual meeting of the members of the Wesleyan Church at Terauka, was held in the Volunteer HaU, on Tuesday evening. Tea was provided by Mcodames J. W. Miles, R. Thomas, E. Brown, and D. McCallum, and the tables were preside! over by Moadames J. W. and H. M, Mi’es, Longston, and B. Brown, assisted by the Misses Wright, Storey, and Brown. At the public meeting subsequently held, the cha'r wrs taken by the Rev. B. S. Bunn, supported by the Eev. T. A. Hamilton and Rev. A. B. Todd. The choir and an orchestra, led by Mr Harrison, occupied the strge, aud rendered various musical selections and solos during the evening. After en address by the chairman, the secretary, Mr H. M. Miles, read the balance sheet, which showed receipts £124 7s 6d and expenditure £124 3s 3d, leaving a credit ba’anoe of 4s 4d. Addresses were given by the Rev. Mr Hamilton and the Rev. Mr Todd. Votes of thanks having been accorded to the ladies who had provided the tea, those who had assisted, and to the choir, the meeting closed with the doxology and benediction. Hastings Brown, late of the Canterbury Mills, Ashburton, for embezzlement of the moneys of the Bank of New Zealand, a statement was made by Mr Fisher, who appeared for the prosecution, which was not recorded. Mr Fisher said that he was instructed that an impression prevailed in some quarters that Brown committed the offences charged against him, with the object of reimbursing himself the cost of machinery which he had placed in the mill at his own cost during Mr Turner’s time and for which he had not been paid. There was not, Mr Fisher stated, the least ground for this impression. On the contrary, after the Bank took over the mills from Mr Turner, Brown put in a claim for £505 4s 6d for machinery, which ho alleged he had put into the mill whilst acting as Mr Turner’s manager, and for which he had not been paid.
