Temuka Town Board.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Temuka Town Board was held on Wednesday evening. The following members were present:—Messrs .T. Blyth (chairman), G. Clinch, A. E. Allan, and G. Mason. Correspondence was read as under : From the Property. Tax Department, enclosing a form of application for subsidy. From the Audit Department enclosing a certified copy of the balance sheet. From the County Council authorising the board to collect the harbour rate. From the Treasury Department stating that a claim fpr fees for the quarter ending 31st March, 1890, had been certified. From Mr A. Gabilies, asking to have the name of Sir William Blunden placed on the roll in respect of sections 312, 313, 314, 333, 334, and 335. —The board ordered that the alteration bo made. From the Canterbury Trades and Labour Council, requesting the board when accepting tenders, to consider if the amount to be paid would.enab’e the contractor to pay fair wages. Mr Franks was granted permission to work on a part of the nightsoil reserve, 2 chains by one chain ; such right to be terminable at a month’s notice, any treating re nightsoil to he made with the nightsoil contractor. Permission was granted to the Fire Brigade to meet in the board’s office on Saturday next. It was decided to ask the brigade to report on the water supply and the board arranged to bo present and discuss the matter. Permission was granted to Mr Tangney to place a horse post in front of his premises. The tender of P. O’Mara for carting shingle at 9id per yard was accepted. It was decided to sue for outstanding rates, and the names of twelve persons were drawn from a list, the same to be proceeded against without further notice.

Ihe overseer's report was read and considered, end he was instruo'cd to give the licensee of the Temuka Hotel notice to have the drain leading from his premises to Vine street piped, and also to notify the owner of the Star Hotel regarding a nuisance alleged to exist in his premises. Accounts amounting to £33 11s 6d, were passed for payment, and the board rose.
