FIRE IN WANGANUI.

THRU BUILDINGS BURNT.

WANGANUI, June 16.

A fire broke out in the Avenue on Sunday morning at four o’clock, destroying a block of buildings occupied by G. D. Jones (tailor), Johnson and Co., of Wellington, Merchants, and Beale and Co , sewing machinists. The fire originated in Jones’s workroom and the brigade had same difficulty in confining it to the three shops, Moult’s crockery warehouse, (adjoining), caught, but was extinguished before much damage was done. The insurances are Jones, £430 in the New Zealand on stock; Johnston and Co. £350 in the National on stock; Beale and Co. £2OO in the Standard on stock. • Tho buildings burnt were insured for £250 each. The National having £SOO, and the London and Lancashire £250. Mr Qoldsbury, manager for Beale and Co., escaped with nothing but what he stood in, and loses all his clothing and the effects of himself and family. Moult has £IOOO in each of tho South British and Phoenix on stock, and tho buildings were insured for £350.
