Fatal Accident. AUCKLAND, June 16,

Samuel Turtle, sharebroker, died in the hospital from injuries received through falliag down stairs at the Masonic Hotel, at Davenport. The deceased was 49 years of age, and single. His only relative is a sister in Ireland. He will have a masonic funeral at Tararu tomorrow.

Death of a Model Settler.

NELSON, June 16,

Dr Greenwood, a very old settler, died at Motueka yesterday, aged 87. He was the first inspector of schools here, and was principal of Nelson College, and for some years he was Sergeant-at-arms in the House of Representatives in the early days of the colony. Ho and his wife, who died a few months ago, were model settlers, exercising great, hospitality, and were most useful to all around.

A fracas occurred on the Kaikorai footbal ground on Saturday. The referee having ordered Keogh off the ground for using improper language and misbehaviour, the Kaikorai Captain withdrew his men from the field. The referee then awarded the match to the Union, Kaikorai thus losing the Championship. The Kaikorai supporters declare that Keogh was provoked into losing his temper by the action of t Crawford, a Union player. The game was rather in the Union’s favor when the‘disturbance arose. ' Alhambra defeated the University by seven points to one. Taieri beat Dunedin by five to nil.
