TlMAßU— Monday, June 9. (Before 0. A. Wray, Esq., R.M) DRUNKENNESS. A first offender, locked up all night, was ordered to pay Is maintenance fee. AN IMPROPER CHARACTER. Alice Baker, charged with having no visible means of support, stated she had made arrangements to leave the place, and was given a fortnight iu which to do so. LARCENY AS A BAILEE. Geo. Farmer who was remanded on Saturday on the charge of making away with a nugget, a trinket and fourponny piece from a watch chain he had borrowd was again brought up. D. Boss, boots at tho Club, stated that accused took off the gold trinket, and gave it to him. He returned the trinket to the owner the same evening. Accused declared in the most emphatic way that so far as ho knew there was no nugget on the chain when he got it from the prosecutor. He was drunk however and it might have been, but he assured His Worship he knew nothing about it. If he had shown any bad intention by selling the things, ho would deserve’ to be severely punished, but as he had not ho though he had been punished enough by being locked up. Ho called Mr Agnew, former, for whom he had bean working, and had still more work to do. Mr Agnew said he had known the man five or six weeks, and so far as be had seen he could give him a good charaeler. His Worship considered that the case was rather one of a drunken freak, and cautioned accused to avoid drink in future seeing what it had led to, and that it m-ght lead to worse, and dismissed the case on condition that ho made restitution to the owner for the lost nugget, valued at 7s 6d, and paid costs of maintenance Is.
