The overseer’s report was read and considered.

It was decided to defer the question of repairs to Eailway Terrace until the next meeting, and that further asphalting should be postponed until tho summer. It was resolved to empower the clerk to obtain shingle for repairs of streets and footpaths when it should be urgently required, and the' opinion was expressed that expense would be saved if repairs were effected as soon as they became necessary. Considerable discussion followed on the subject of the registration of dogs. The dork said that he knew of cases where owners resident in the Temuka district bad registered their dogs in Arowhenua, and ho gave eases in proof. The Eegistrar of the Temuka Bead Board and Arowhenua Town District, and himself had mutually agreed not to register dogs outside their own district, but tho Registrar for the Arowhenua District had not kept to his agreement. The chairman was of opinion that it would save a great deal of unpleasantness if the police were appointed registrars. It was resolved—" That the clerk write to the chairman of the Geraldine County Council and Arowhenua Town Board, requesting that the clerks be instructed to meet for the purpose of rectifying errors caused by the registration of dogs in the wrong district ” It was agreed that tho horse poets in their present state were dangerous, as many of them were placed on the footpaths, and a resolution was passed—“'l hat the clerk give notice to owners of all posts on the footpaths other than verandah posts, to paint them white, to prevent accidents, and. that failing compliance the board will have them sawn off."

Allusion was made to the practice of some persons of discharging firearms and blasting with powder within the town boundary. It was shown that such actions were illegal, but tho matter was allowed to drop without any resolution having been passed dealing with it. Accounts amounting to £8 6s lOd were passed for payment, and the board then continued sitting as a local board of health. The health officer’s report was read.
