The annual meeting of the Levels Licensing Committee will be hold at the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Timaru, at noon, to-mor-row (Saturday). A very pleasant entertainment was given last evening in the Oddfellows’ Hall, under (he management of the Primitive Methodist Band of Hope, There was a good attendance, and a long programme of music, recitations, dialogues, and dramatic sketches by members of the Band of Hope and friends was gone through. The entertainment proved very enjoyable. In the absence of the Rev. W. Woollass, who was too much indisposed',to attend, Mr Hilton took the chair. Miss Williams rendered valuable assistance as organist. Touching the Electoral Bill to bo introduced next session Mr Fisher told his constituents ho was directly and distinctly opposed to the Hare system. That system was Uko national arbitration for the suppression of war, temperance, and land nationalism perfect and unanswerable on paper, and utterly impossible in practice. It asked you to elect a man you novel saw before. A man might be an excellent essayist, but tbc biggest fool you over saw when you came to meet him. The Haro system gave no chance either to a now man or a young man; bo himself might have been fighting away all bis life, until ho was gray-beaded, bo would not say bald-headed—(Mr Fisher is bald headed) and bo would never have been elected. Just at that moment Me Fisher lifted his hand, in accordance with an old habit, to his head, and added impressively, “ I certainly never would have bean elected on tho Haro system.” The applau e and laughter which greeted this doubly unquestionably truthful statement stopped the progress of the speaker fop quite a time.
