Licensing Committees.

GERALDINE. Tho annual meeting of tho Geraldine Licensing Committee was hold in the Courthouse, Geraldine, on Tuesday last, at noon, there being present--Messrs A. White (chairman), M. Connolly, W. S. Maslin, and G. H. Patrick. A letter received from the Colonial Secretary was read, in regard to Mr Connolly having been appointed a member of the committee in the place of Mr A. Shorralfc. resigned. A report from Constable Willoughby was read in regard to the amount of drinking going on on Sundays. He reported that ho had visited the hotels regularly on those days, and gave the names of several persons found therein. Tho report was received.

The police report on the licensed houses was read. Concerning the Bush and Geraldine hotels it was deemed satisfactory. The following was appended regarding the Crown hotel! —"Besides being out of repair, there is a real want of accommodation for persona desiring privacy, and none for married people or commercial travellers. It is questionable whether the house is worth the repairs and alterations necessary to bring it up to the standard of modern requirements.” In connection with this report, a letter bad been sent to the lessee, Mr Markham, to the effect that the renewal of the license would bo objected to. The application for the renewal of the license of the Crown hotel was then discussed, and ultimately a list of the repairs, etc., required was noted, and Mr Maslin proposed, and Mr Connolly seconded :—“ That I the repairs be taken in hand at once ; the I application in the meanwhile to stand ad- ' journcd.” Mr Patrick stated that he thought a new bu’lding should bo erected in place of tho present one. It was resolved that a copy of the foregoing resolution be sent to the owner and present licensee.

Mr R. Tajlor was granted a renewal of his license for the Geraldine Hotel. Mr F. Wileon-Smith applied tor transfer of the Bush Hotel from Mr M. Spillane to Mr T. McAidiffo. It was decided to grant the transfer when some necessary repairs had been done. It was decided to request the Geraldine Town Board, as the receiver of the licensing fees, to supply some copies of the Licensing Act for tiie use of members. The court then rose.

EADKAPUEA.

The annual meeting of the members of the Raukapuka Licensing Committee was held at the courthouse, Geraldine, on Wednesday last. Present—Messrs J. M. Barber, W. E. Barker, A. Macdonald, and Major Moore, Mr J. M. Barker was elected chairman.

The chairman read the inspector's report on the licensed houses in the district, which was satisfactory in each instance except the Hilton hotel which needed painting on the outside.

I ho applications for renewals of the licenses of the Star of the South Hotel and Hangitata Bridge Hotel were granted. It was decided not to grant any conditional license for the Bangilata Bridge Racing Club.

It was resolved—“ That the fees and conditions of licenses be the same ns last year.” It was resolved—” That this court adjourn till Saturday week to consider Mrs Tindall’s anplication for renewal of license of the Hiltm Hotel.”

The court then adjourned till that date
