The Midland Railway.

Wo have received by an English mail (the Nelson Mail, says) a copy of the prospectus of the New Zealand Midland Railway Company, issue of £745,010 five per cent, debentures at the price of £93 10s per £IOO debenture, (1) to extend and equip the lino to Reefton, about 40 miles ; (3) to make and equip about 12 miles of line inlo the timber district near Brunnerton; and (3) to construct in accordance with the contract, at Springfield and Belgrovo the extension (about six miles at each place) of Government railways now in operation at these points, in all about 64 miles of railways ; also to complete the surveys for the line. No further issue is to be made pending the completion of the line from Brunnerton to Reefton, which, together with the construction of the other portions mentioned, is expected to occupy two years and a half. The prospectus goes on to state that the Midland Railway is the only authorised line connecting the East and West Coasts of the Southern Island, and while affording through communication between the city of Christchurch and tho porta of Greymouth and Nelson, will unite agricultural and pastoral districts with others abounding in timber, as well as gold, coal, and other minerals.
