SALE OF NORTH CANTERBURY RUNS.

(Bt Telegraph.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 4. The sale of runs in North Canterbury was attended by a very large number of persons. The rims mostly consist of mountainous country. Those between tho Bakaia and Ashburton excited fair competition. Those north of the Bakaia were mostly sold at the upset, owing to the majority of them being within the area of selection by the Midland Bail way Company, and tho tenure not being guaranteed, the present occupiers secured all the runs. Old settlers were heartily applauded when their runs were knocked down to them. 50 Crown runs were put up; 47 sold ; 1 was withdrawn 5 2 were not bid for. 1 he upset price of the Government ruts sold was £12,400, and the amount realised was £15,284, being £2939 above tho present rents. 21 runs fetched above the upset price; 26 went at tho upset. 6 educational reserves were offered and let, the upset price being £3315, and the amount realised £4615, being £1474 above tho present rents.
