Nearly all the buildings in St. Albans, GO miles north-west of Sydney, in the Hawkesbury Valley, were washed away during the recent floods, and one life was lost. NEW ZEALAND WHEAT. New Zealand wheat is quoted, nominally, at 4s 4d to 4s 7d. SHIPPING. Arrived—Lindus and Belle Isle, from Lyttelton; Edith May, from Napier; Loch Naw, from Dunedin.

Heavy'business is being done in oats, the price being up to 4s 3d ex wharf. CONTEMPT OF COURT. Mr Dailey, the solicitor who was fined £25 and sentenced to a month’s imprisonment for contempt of court, in writing a letter to the Press commenting on the Cutler perjury case, has had his sentence commuted to a week’s imprisonment.

Eastern news by the British East India steamer slates that the tea crops in the district of Canton are below the average and twenty per cent worse than last year’s; that cholera is still increasing at Manilla, the death rate averaging fifty daily ; that news from Corea is disquieting. ' The Treasury is empty and the Government are unable to pay for sixty thousand rifles which they had ordered ; that Admiral Sheffield has been offered the position of king’s adviser vice Judge Denny.

Two men, named Salliera and Millar, have been drowned by the flood in the Manning river, Taree. CANADIAN CABLE CONFERENCE. In reply to a question as to tho ap. pointment of Mr Finch Hatton, as delegate to the conference re the Canadian cable, Sir Henry Parkes aaid that, after the recent dispute between the late Government and the Government of Victoria concerning the place of meeting, the matter had been allowed to drop. B e went on to say that, as far as his Government was concerned, no negotiations whatever had taken place, and unless the Imperial Government had received special information on the subject, Mr Finch Hatton’s appointment was premature.

The football match yesterday afternoon between St. Kilda and the Maori team resulted in a win for the local team by 6 goals and 7 behinda to 1 goal and 6 behinds.
