Fire at Invercargill.
(Bv Telegraph.) INVERCARGILL, May 29. A six-roomed cottage in Jed street was burned this afternoon. It was owned by Mrs Wilson, and occupied by the Colvin family. The husband is working at the Bluff, and while Mrs Colvin was at the railway station with a parcel for him, tbe girl lit a fire of chips, the flatrea from which spread to the mantel and walls. The household effects were saved. The house is insured for £IOO in the Colonial. The value of the new water supply, which is equivalent to keeping the steam fire engine always at work, was shown by the ease with which the fire was put out Immediately the alarm sounded the speed of the engines at the water works quickened, and the full pressure was at once obtained.
