Mr O. Hilton, fruiterer, has obtained a very useful bit of counter furniture, in a small “ cash pad," an invention for which, as a statement on the pad sets forth, a patent has been applied for. It is a circular sheet of rubber about the size of a dinned plate, from the surface of which project a largo number of small studs, about half an inch long. ‘‘Change ” laid on those is easily picked up even by thick-gloved fingers. The idea is a good ono and tho pad should como into general «»g.
The Timaru and Pirates football clubs will have a combined practice match to-morrow afternoon on the South Canterbury Athletic Olub’e grounds. Members are requested to roll up punctually, so that a good match can be played. The new railway time table was discussed by members of the Geraldine County Council “at the fireside ” this morning. All agreed that tho table does not find the least favour in South Canterbury, and it was prophesied that in less than three months the old table would be once more in operation. This had always worked most satisfactorily, and had ever tended to make rail more popular travelling than road.
Passers-by enjoyed some excitement this morning in front of a well known bookseller’s shop, which has recently changed hands. A dispute arose over some innocent looking bills. As fast as one man sluck them up tho other pulled them down, hot words being bandied about during the process. At last a trace was arranged, but seme doubt still remaining in one man’s mind he appointed (he bailiff in charge to stand by while the bills “dried.” The noted quality of the Coffee made in the Cafes of Turkey, France, and America is chiefly due to tho tact that only Fresh Boasted Coffee is used ; so that none of the volatile oil and other essentials are lost.
