(By Telegraph.) gAUDINGTON LIVE STOCK MARKET. CHRISTCHURCH. May 22. At the sale to-day there was a very large attendance and there was an unusual amount of activity prevailing, and in some respects the day’s doings were far more satisfactory than has been the case recently. Every line was cleared. The entry of lambs was unusually small and prices somewhat less than lately, there being little or no demand. A line of crossbreds fetched up to 7s 3d, other soj;its being sold in proportion. In fat sheep tfifire was a very large entry, and in several, the quality was very superior. IMJNE#IN>. ‘May 22. Mr D. Strouach reports for tho r.’cek ended May 22nd., a,?-follows pat cattle. 240 head' were yarded, tho quality ranging from inferior to good and p’rime. Tho number was largely in excess of r equipments, and competition, except for res' Hy prime quality, lacked spirit, prices show mg a considerable redaction on last week’s r ates. Best bullocks brought £7 7s Gd to .£8 15s, inferior to medium £3l7s Gd to £'Blss, cows from £3 5s to £6 10s. FAT SHEEP. 3657 were penned— 600 merino wethers and the balance crossbreds medium to good and prime. An exceptionally fine lot of merino wethers, such as are seldom seen at Burnside, brought 14s 3d to 16s 3d, ordinary 6s Gd to 8s Gd. GBAIH, Wheat—Daring the past week there has been a slightly bettor demand for prime samples, and several sales have been effected, but none of any magnitude. Millers so far are the only operators, and continue to purchase with extreme caution. While prices in Canterbury remain at their present level holders in this market are not likely to obtain an advance. Medium quality, not up to northern condition, is difficult to place. Inferior and good fowl wheat is not over plentiful and has a fair demand. We quote prime milling Tuscan 4s Id to 4s 2d, rod straw and white velvet 3s lOd to 4s, medium to good 3s Gd to 3s 9d, inferior to medium 2s 9d to 8s 4d, ox store. Oats—These have continued in good demand for immediate requirements both for shipment and local use. Millers have been buying freely all coming to hand for disposal fit for their purpose at slightly higher prices. Shippers have also been purchasing all on offer to fill np space engaged, but are not disposed to speculate at present rates. Stocks are not accumulating in store to any large extent, deliveries being much below the average of previous seasons. Wo quote prime milling 2s 8d to 2s 9d, best short feed 2s 7id to 2s Bd, medium to good 2s GVd to 2s 7d, inferior and medium Danish 2s 5d to 2s Gld, ox . store.

Barley—This is in fair demand in suitable parcels for shipment, but -for local requirements buyers do not show very much desire to operate except whan extra prime samples are offered. Values remain as last quoted, namely, for prime malting 3s 8(1 to 33 9d, IBQdiuia 8s 94 to 3s Cd, es store,
