THE Council of the Borough of Timaru purpose making the following Rates, at a Special Meeting to be held on MONDAY, the 27tii MAY, 1889, that is to say : That an Annual General Rato of Fourpence in the Pound Sterling be made on the values of the rateable properties, as appearing on the .-Valuation Moll for the Borough, now now in force for the year 1889. That the following Water Rates be made : In respect of the Ordinary Supply upon all lands and buildings to which water is supplied whoso rateable value on the Valuation Roll Does not exceed £l2 10s, a rate of ten shillings per annum ; Exceeds £l2 10s, hut does not exceed £3OO, a rate of five per cent on such value. Exceeds £3OO, a rale of four per cent on such value. Upon all lands and buildings to which water can be, but is not supplied, situate within one hundred yards from any part of the Waterworks, a rate of one-half of the rates above mentioned.. Upon all buildings used as stores or warehouses, or for any purpose other than a dwelling house, a rate of 2i per cent on the rateable value. Providing that any dwelling house remaining actually unoccupied for not loss than six months in any year, if the owner or occupier give notice in writing to the Council of the dates on which the same became vacant and on which it is again occupied, a rate only one half the amount otherwise payable. The foregoing rates to apply and be for the period commencing on the Ist day of January 1889, and ending on the 31st day of December, 1889. The rates above mentioned together with the annual Recurring Special rale for.interest on Waterworks loan of one shilling in the pound, to bo payable in each case in two halfyearly instalments—on the Ist day of Juue, 1889, and on the Ist day of December, 1889, —to Ed win Henry Lough, the appointed Rate Collector, or to such other officer as the Council may from time to time appoint to recover the same. A statement of the proposed Rates, and also of the propoeed Expenditure and estimated Receipts in the Borough Funds Accounts for the year ending 31st March, 1890, is open at the office of the undersigned. NOTICE OF MOTION, THE following notice of motion will be considered at next meeting of the Council, on the 27th instant: “ That the Resolution pa'sed by the Timaru Borough Council, on the 22nd February, 1886, appointing Thursday Afternoon in each successive week the statutory half holiday, bo rescinded, and the following be adopted in lieu thereof, at a special meeting of the Timaru Borough Council, to be held on the 27th day of May, 1889, at 8 o’clock p m., and confirmed by special order of the Council on the 24th day of June, 1889. “That the special order made on the 22nd day of February, 1886, under the provisions of Section 3 of the Employment of Females and Others Act, 1881, Amendment Act, 1885, be rescinded, and that the following special order be made in lieu thereof—* That under the provisions of Section 3 of the Employment of Females and Others Act, 1881, Amendment Act, 1885, Thursday is hereby appointed to be the day in eocli week henceforth on which females, young persons, and children shall have holiday from 2 o’clock in the afternoon, provided always that nothing herein,or in the said special order of the 22nd day of February, 1886, contained shall affect the Tiinaru Woollen Manufacturing Company or its employees.’ ” EDWIN Hy.
