The total amount of reserve in the Baiik of England is £14,478,000, being an increase upon the previous week of £978,000. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 37|- per cent. Consols, 904-, firm. Australian wheat, ex warehouse, 39s Gd, business restricted. New Zealand long berried ditto, ex store, 38s Gd, business also restricted. The copper market is steady ; present quotations being £39. Gorman beet sugar 21s 3d ; Java 23s> the latter nominal.

The funeral ofr Irving Bishop has been postponed in consequence of the allegations made by his widow that the autopsy was performed while her husband was in a cataleptic trance. An inquest will be held. CREMATION. The Middleabro Council has passed a resolution in favour of cremation. AUSTRALIAN CABLES. In tho House of Commons Mr Henneker Heaton has given notice to ask the Government why they refuse to join in subsidising Australian cable lines. EVICTIONS THREATENED. It has been decided to evict the tenants on the Irish estates of Viscount Massereene and replace them with Ulster protestants. It is feared bloodshed will result if this decision is carried out.
