PRESENTATION TO MR D. BONE.
An interesting ceremony was performed yesterday on the platform of the Sutherlands railway station, when Mr Alexander Sutherland on behalf of the householders of the district read to Mr D. Bone, the schoolmaster, who is leaving for another appointment, the following address : “To David Bone Eeq,—Dear Sir. —We the undersigned parents and householders in the Sutherlands school {district cannot allow you to leave without expressing our sincere regret at your approaching departure. While congratulating you on your promotion to another school we are conscious of tho loss wo shall sustain in losing so excellent a teacher, as our children have made great progress under your careful tuition. In our social gatherings we shall miss you and your amiable and musical family. And you may rest as=ured that you carry with you our best and sincerest wishes for your future prosperity and happiness. We present you with the accompanying gift as a small token of our esteem and appreciation of your many and good qualities. Wishing you and yours every happiness, we remain your sincere friends. ’’ (signed by a number of householders in the Sutherlands school district). Mr Bone in reply referred gratefully to tho hearty and warm welcome with which he and his family were melon arriving in the district, and to the friendship so soon formed and so well maintained between them and the householders. It was always a matter of regret to leave children to whom one had become attached, and ho regretted much to part from the Sutherlands children, who had worked willingly and well with him, and this was tho secret of the success of the school since he took charge of it. He and his family had always felt it a privilege as well as a duty to take an interest in tho social welfare of the district in which they might be located, and if they had been the means of giving pleasure, they certainly had received much pleasure in return. The address is to bo illuminated by Mr Geo. Wade, and forwarded to Mr Bono.
