Dearer Sugar. AUCKLAND. May 11
The Colonial Sugar Company have made another advance of 10s per ton. The price of all grades of sugars has been increased in fire weeks by 30s per ton. Masonic. The Devonport Masonic Lodge decided unanimously last night in favor of the Grand Lodge proposals. Welcome Rain. .After a heavy downpour of rain for two days the weather is beautifully fine. The rain has done a great deal of good in the country. Accidents. Kanioii, a native was cleaning a gun at Whetaroa, when it went off at half cock and shattered his hand. Chas Horne was very badly scalded about the arms and head by an accident while removing boilers of hot water from a fireplace. FireWAIPAWA, Max 11. This morning at a quarter to four tho old Waipawa Hotel was burnt down. The origin of the fire is unknown. Builders were at work on the premises up to five o’clock yesterday repairing and adding to the building, There waf no one in the house at the time of the fire. There was a builders’ risk on the premises of £650 in the British and Mercantile. End of a Drought. The drought has broken up, heavy rain having fallen all over the district. The country was much parched and stock were suffering.
