A Mexican mob made an attempt to release live Jesuit prisoners who had been committed to gaol at Guanaxuata, the capital of the State of the same name, for preaching seditious sermons. The troops were called out to protect the governor of the gaol, and were compelled to fire on the mob. Two hundred of the latter were killed.
