INVERCARGILL, April 26,
The extensive premises of Fleming and Qilkison, flour millers, caught fire at 11.20 a.m. to-day. The buildings are part of brick and part of wood, and the flames started in the upper story of tho wooden portion. The brigade were soon on the spot and eventually had five jets playing on the fire, but a strong wind blowing to some extent neutralised their efforts. The wooden section of the establishment is now (1.40) mostly demolished, but it is believed the brick stores and contents will be saved. Insurances steam flour mill, £IOOO in the New Zealand £250, reinsured in Phccnix and £250 in the North German, and £6OO in the Equitable; wheat and oats in store £IOOO in the Now Zealand (reinsured £SOO in the Gorth German), and £IOOO in the Royal.
