Tho Tongariro arrived at Rio do Janeiro on the 11th inst, all well, and her cargo of frozen meat was in good condition. THE TASMANIAN LOAN. Tenders for the Tasmanian loan of one million, inscribed, at per cent, were opened to-day., The total amount tendered was £2,190,000. There were 160 tenderers. Those at £97 18s 6d receive 25 per cent. A syndicate tendered for £850,000 at that price. BIRMINGHAM ELECTION. The election for the Birmingham Central seat, vacant by the death of the Right Hon. John Bright, took place today, when Mr Albert Bright, son of the deceased atalesman, who stood in the Unionist interest, was returned by a majority of 3060, having polled 5621, whilst his opponent, Mr Philson Beale, who stood in the Home Rule interest, only succeeded in polling 2561.
