Brother Jonathan’s Wooing.

Congressman Butterworth, of Ohio, says the Dunedin Star's corespondent, has introduced in the American Congress a resolution requesting the President to extend to the members of the Dominion Parliament and the Premiers and Cabinets of the several provinces an invitation to vi-ifc this country and be its guests, and authorising an appropriation of £30,000 to defray the expenses of | the junketing trip. The appropriation will doubtless meet with some opposition, and eyen if it fail to pass the visit will materialise allthesame. The American railway companies have signified their willingness to co-operate, and there are plenty of American business gpntlpmen who will esfeem it a pleasure to foot the bills of Miss Canada when she conies over in the spring to look over the estates and vast wealth of the young fellow who is paying her attention, and is resolved to make an impression. His blandishments will not bo wasted, for she will have a jolly time. After seeing all the attractions of New York,. Boston, Philadelphia; touching the summer resorts by the great lakes, and Chicago at St. Louis ; then away over the boundless prairies of the Wild West and across the savannahs of the south, the sugar plantations of Lousiana, and the orange groves of Florida, then back home to the cold North; with a feeling of unrest and vague yearning for the delights of the Great Bepublic that will know no cessation until she accepts the hand of her suitor and agrees to share his fortunes and enjoy his larger area of comfort, prosperity and freedom.
